SHAANEA MENDIS D’SILVA

Shaanea Mendis D’Silva is a Sri Lankan born Visual Artist and her art practice engages in a meditative process, contemplating intricate biological patterns and textures from nature that are used as metaphors to communicate subtle political and social commentary. She turns to abstraction as a form of silent activism and looks to nature to seek guidance from man-made chaos. The use of oxidised iron/ rust stains, gold leaf and verdigris feature prominently along with delicate pen and ink and watercolour renderings.
