Dhan Prasad: “Rising from the depths of a social milieu that fosters imagination, Dhan Prasad’s paintings uphold a deep spiritualism. His artwork, which depicts a play of marvellous colours and ambitious portraits, is a subtle exploration of that which is not perceived by the senses in our everyday experiences.
Having received formal training under the governments of Bhopal and Andhra Pradesh, Prasad’s art expresses a desire to see beyond the evident and capture the latent. The use of modern abstract styles to depict age-old-themes, stands out as his defining feature. His figures are elegant without lacking vigour; his colours, playful without offending the eye and his themes subtle without ever evading the observer.
The influence of a childhood desire to perceive God motivates him greatly. There is a serene acceptance of the omnipresence of God. His art sheds all links to the world’s efforts to regiment one’s subjective experiences of the divine. The lack of concrete ideas, leads him to locate the divine in the mundane. In his painting, “HE IS AMONG US”, the effort is to uphold a manifestation of God in those around us- a parent, a sibling, a friend or a colleague.
Prasad paints divinities not in their celestial grandeur but as people from different walks of life. Some of his recent exhibitions include a group show at NIV Art Gallery, New Delhi (2021); India. Bangladesh Online Art Exhibition organized by Scarlet India (2021) and group show at Altamira. Art Gallery, Kolkata. His solo exhibitions have taken place at Sri Paravathy gallery at Chennai (2013), JNTU College of Fine Arts, Hyderabad (2015) and an online show at Krimau Arts, Delhi (2021).”
