Prakash Ghadge: “Working from the heart of Mumbai, Prakash Haribhau Ghadge’s artwork makes the hum of life stop for a moment. The holder of a Government Diploma in Art from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, Ghadge’s works are a deep contemplation of seclusion.
Having spent his childhood in a village, his close ties to the rural space is evident. Ghadge’s renunciation of colours for monochromatic brush and pen strokes early in his career, was a rather brave move that paid off. His stipplings and cross hatchings are done with immaculate consistency, sufficiently showing the artist’s integrity and accomplishes the task of conveying his emotions in lucid notions.
His themes are essentially modern but deeply philosophical- often hovering over the spiritual sphere as well. His works make the observer confront the fact that peace is not a marketable commodity. Ghadge brings to the forefront a varied perception of experiences of the everyday world around us. The power of lines and dots is sufficiently conveyed as the viewer halts the chatter in his mind for a moment and gives way to a meditative silence
Ghadge is the holder of numerous awards. He is the winner of the Art Society of India Award (2003), the Bombay Art Society Award (2008), Maharashtra Government State Art Award (2008), , Oak Smriti Award, Pune (1990), etc. His latest solo exhibitions have been at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (2022) and Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (2016). Ghadge has also participated on invitation, organised events for different causes and is well known for conducting artist camps at Kolkata, Pune, Mumbai Pattaya and Lucknow.
