Her art practice engages in a meditative process, contemplating intricate biological patterns and textures from nature that are used as metaphors to communicate subtle political and social commentary. She turns to abstraction as a form of silent activism and look to nature to seek guidance from man-made chaos. The use of oxidized iron/ rust stains, gold leaf and verdigris feature prominently along with delicate pen and ink and watercolour renderings.
"Shaanea Mendis D’Silva is a Sri Lankan born Visual Artist, and is currently based in Copenhagen, Denmark (2022). She graduated with a BA (Hons) degree from The Lasalle College of The Arts, Singapore (2007) and has exhibited her work in Singapore, Sri Lanka and Mumbai.
