Vijay Raut: “A meritorious student at Sir J. J. school of Art Mumbai and a fellowship awardee, the
journey of Vijay Raut began as an illustrator. His animation company where he directed
several award-winning short films, kept his passions for painting alive. Experimentation
and invention are the defining features of his works.
Not wanting to subject himself to the regimentation of ink and canvas, Raut manifests
his art on wood, uses waste substances as raw material and has designed sculptures as
well. With the hope of bringing about the amalgamation of the finer arts and technology, Raut has tried his hand at graphic paintings as well. His subjects involve both traditional as well as modern themes; abstract as well as realistic depictions; and
His series, The Manifestation of Soul, which was exhibited at the renowned Jehangir Art Gallery of Mumbai in 2022 is a deeply philosophical range of paintings depicting crucial parts of Indian cultures. Inspired by the sadhus of India who come from various walks of life and exhibit a play of colour in their attires and their teachings, Raut undertakes the task of showcasing the vibrance of the life of such ascetic beings.
Raut is the holder of several accolades such as the Chandrakant Mandre Award as
Young Artist for the Year of (2007), the Bombay Art society award for Best realistic
painting (2002) and the Art society India awards for portrait painting (1989-2001). He
is the founder of the Bombay Art society in Bandra and an animation college in
